Two Pieces by A.J. Huffman
A Nightmare of Ash and Flame
Your smile scares me.
It scars me.
With its brutal innocence.
So honest.
I cannot help but distrust
its glow.
Is growing
around my mind.
A holy disease.
I agree.
To breathe in its light.
And so I burn.
Beautifully.
Consciousness Atremble
Open the space
between my mind
and your lips.
Unwind.
The distance.
The tension.
All remember
the form of forget.
Is hollow.
Echoing out.
Watch the waves.
Falter.
As their touch gets tougher.
Roughly pushing us forward.
Then, gratefully, pulling us back.
Happily.
I will let it hold me.
Until I believe
I am gone.
